How to Make Latex Reports

The thesis in LaTeX writing software also helps you to write your reports in the most professional way. So if you are thinking of writing your report in LaTex but don’t have the necessary knowledge, then you are going to find the following steps really useful for writing your very own LaTex reports for the first time.

First of all you need to put your name and your title at the top of your file using the appropriate text.

The commands which you are required to use are:

  1. \documentclass{report}
  2. \usepackage{fullpage}
  3. \renewcommand{\baselinestretch}{2}
  4. \author{Write Name}
  5. \title{Write Title}
  6. \begin{document}
  7. \maketitle
  8. \tableofcontents

The first line provides information to the source editor to make a report, as the report argument is used.

Then the next line helps in setting the margins to 1 inches.

The third line puts double space in the format

The author and title commands are easily understandable. Then after the begin document command, but before you start, you need to write the titlepage which the seventh line requires you to do. The last line is about making the table of contents.

After that you can start creating models in Latex. in case of next chapter, you can do so using the following command

\chapter{Write Chapter Title}. There are also different sections available to you which you use as different levels of headers. Some of the commands for  those sections are:

  1. \section{Write title of Section here}
  2. \subsection{Write title of Subsection here}
  3. \subsubsection{Write title of subsubsection here}
  4. \paragraph{Write title of paragraph here}

However, its not necessary to make use of all the section levels and most of the reports can do without using them all. After, you have written everything, you can end your document using the\end{document} command.

Now your LaTeX report is ready to run through the source editor. However, you first have to save the file and type ‘latex filename’ at the Athena % prompt. If there are no errors in your document, a dvi file will be produced. You can always view it using the ‘xdvi filename.dvi’ & command and in case of a printout you have to use ‘dvips-Pprintername filename.dvi’
