Note: However, for equation conversion, you should have MathType 4.0 or any other version installed.

Text Conversion

Follow along the below mentioned steps for the text conversion.

  1. Save your Word file as RTF file instead of docx format.
  2. Click on rtf2ltx.exe (you can find it in c:\swp30\rtf\rtf2ltx.exe).
  3. Click Browse to look for your RTF file.
  4. You can adjust your Character Attributes here if you want.
  5. Click  Convert.

Your file is now converted in to the required TEX file, having just the plain text though.

Equation Conversion

Follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Open file in the MS Word environment.
  2. Then open file in the TEX format in the WordPad or a Scientific Work environment.
  3. Now click on the required equation in the Word file that has to be converted.
  4.  ‘MathType’ will open’
  5. Goto ‘Preferences’ and then ‘Translators’.
  6. Choose ‘Translate to other language (text).’
  7. Choose TeX — LaTeX 2.09 or later as your option.
  8. Note: You just have to set it once.
  9. You can select and copy to the clipboard.
  10. Paste it to the TEX file, in the required position.

If you have opened it in the Scientific environment, you need to click on the Insert Field TeX. After pasting it, [TeX Field] will appear on the field. However, after you save and load the file again, the  equation will be put in the correct format on the screen.

After you are finished, you can save your TEX file. In case you are using WordPad, you can select the type of file as Text Document. By following along this tutorial, you can convert word document to LaTeX report easily.
